Our Weapon

by Jennifer Kirkendall © 2023

We are each armed,
Possessing a weapon of our own,
It is powerful,
Deadlier than any known.

It can cause destruction,
And it can kill.
It can cause massive wounds,
The kind that will never heal.

It can be full of poison,
It can cause so much pain,
Leaving such a mess,
With those it has slain.

We must learn to control it,
And try to keep it tame.
We shouldn't point it others,
We shouldn't take aim.

Don't be quick to pull the trigger,
Think before you speak.
Our tongue has so much power,
The havoc it can wreak.

Don't use it for evil,
With gossip that is spread,
Speak words of praises and blessings,
Let it be used for good instead.

You can build others up,
Or you can tear them down.
Words flow out of the mouth,
But in the heart they're found.

Let's spend time thanking God,
For all the good things He has done,
And let's spend time singing praises,
To Jesus, His only Son.

So, Lord, help me guard my mouth,
And the words that flow from within.
Let them be filled with Your light and love,
Instead of darkness and sin.
