The Silences of Saturday

by ceeteeaye

The streets are silent now -
Those strident streets, so loud
The streets are silent now -
No raucous, carping crowd!
The hustling is o'er;
The bustling, no more;
The streets are silent now!

The lambs are silent now -
Those flawless lambs, that bleat
The lambs are silent now -
A sated mercy-seat!
The asking price paid;
The sacrifice, made;
The lambs are silent now!

His friends are silent now
Those fearless friends, so bold
His friends are silent now
Their warm support gone cold!
A protected grave;
Dejected, not brave;
His friends are silent now!

The heavens are silent now -
It is a pause divine
The heavens are silent now
Salvation's grand design.
The Lord succumbing?
No! Sunday's coming!
The heavens are silent now!
