That Stranger

by Ken Leath

Your day started with that stranger, he just happened to be there.
You took some time to talk with him, but you really didn't care.
He just didn't seem to register, in your busy, cluttered life.
His needs didn't seem to bother you, no compassion for His strife.

At work you have an acquaintance, you see him each and every day.
And even though you like the guy, you won't go out of your way.
You laugh and joke and talk with him, while at the water cooler stand.
But when problems come into his life, you dismiss them out of hand.

There's a friend that you think well of, with whom you'll spend your time.
Of whom you think real highly, you might just give him your last dime.
You might even be that lucky one, who knows a simple truth of life.
The day that you got married, your best friend became your wife.

You think about your brother, who lives in a different country than you do.
He serves your Lord and Master, and shares a similar worldview.
He may live with persecution, and suffer hardships every day.
Don't forget about your brother, get on your knees and pray.

Jesus said He was that Stranger, could you not have met his need?
Before you were an acquaintance, He was nailed to a cross to bleed.
He said if you would trust in Him, you would have no better friend.
To His Father He'd call you His brother, for His love will never end.
