Three Days

by David Piper © 2020

1. Radiance enlivens the midnight skies,
In a rustic trough a newborn lies.
Herdsmen hear the proclamation,
scholars come with myrrh and gold,
Heralding the promised coming
of a Saviour long foretold.

2. Darkness envelopes the midday skies,
On a rustic cross a convict dies.
To garland wreath of twisted thorns
sentries in mock homage bow.
Jeering crowds hurl taunts and insults,
where this promised Saviour now?

3. A makeshift crib and a borrowed tomb.
No worldly wealth and no earthly home.
Easter dawns, and resurrection
to His heavenly throne restored.
"Hallelujahs!" there proclaim Him
Saviour, and eternal Lord.
