While your spoken words of outrage deeply
Cut in me, bringing me to thus blush red,
I think of Jesus hanging painfully
Upon the cross, insulted in my stead.
While you may have a hoard of finery
At your disposal, reckoned as your worth,
The blood of Jesus redefining me
Has bought me and redeemed me from your mirth.
His word reigns despite emotions deepest
Of fear and dread and shame and agony.
My red face bends the knee to Jesus best,
To His sinless sacrifice that saves me.
Furthermore, I pray the prayer that Christ prayed
For your forgiveness, mine’s already paid.
