Top Picks Poems

We sorted through the poems and listed here what we felt were the better ones.
Strong Legs finalist in poetry contest
I've had some pretty harrowing near death experiences. I faced cancer, got shot at in the wee hours of the morning in front of a bar in Inglewood CA, was in a motorcycle accident at 70mph, and had a .45 held to my temple by a crazy ex-cop! I wasn't alone

Psalm 44
We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago. With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish. Psalm 44:1-2

Open Your Eyes and See finalist in poetry contest
Open your eyes and see what Jesus did for us.

Essential
I have wrestled long with trying to make sense of mixed messages when it comes to what is and what is not essential. This poem captures some of that frustration we have all been dealing with.

Dirty Hands Clean Money
The title of this poem comes from a bumper sticker I saw on a pick up truck while driving on the highway. As I thought about those 4 words, this poem was born.

A Different Lighthouse second in poetry contest
I am forever grateful for the day that Jesus called me out of darkness and into His marvelous light!

Psalm 41 finalist in poetry contest
Even though I'd known that the Psalms were divided into 5 books for most of my life, until I wrote this, I didn't know that the last verse (or so) of the last Psalm of each Book was a doxology. Psalm 41 is the final Psalm of Book 1, ending in a doxology.

You Are The Potter I Am The Clay
I was inspired to write this after hearing a sermon with the same title. This is a lesson we all need to learn and be reminded of from time to time.

Pain for Peace first in poetry contest
I was in excruciating pain when I wrote this a few weeks ago. I was in so much pain that I begged God to take me home. Evidently, God had other ideas - at least for a time. So today I am totally free of pain. I praise God for his grace and mercy.
