YOU WENT FIRST, AND I REMAIN

by Margaret Cagle

You went first, and I remain
To travel this earth below.
Only God knew my great pain
When I had to let you go.

Down here, we shared our love.
We had our ups and downs,
But there in Heaven up above,
There'll be no fuss or frowns.

The memories of our good times here,
I'll hold within my soul.
Death can't take these memories dear,
Though grief can take its toll.

Someday your face again I'll see
In Glory Land so fair.
What a great reunion that will be
Beside the river there!

So until then, I must be strong
And live for God each day,
For it may not be very long
Until I come your way.
