Hero

Do you remember back to when,
Your brown eyes stared into mine?
When I was once your hero;
Can I turn back hands of time?

I would savor every moment
I would give you one more kiss.
I would not tell you to hurry
It's those moments that I miss.

You want to grow up so fast,
Once again be my little boy.
Playing race cars in the dirt
Taking apart every toy.

I miss our bed time stories
Bowing at night to pray
Thanking God for our family
And for giving us each day.

I know you want wings to fly,
I wish I could clip those wings.
And hold you in my arms again
Whispering silly things:

I still love you more than toothpaste
I love you more than sparkling snow.
And you're much better than ice cream.
I never realized how quick you'd grow.

But time moves on forward still
Though I long for one more glance
To a time that is no longer
And this hero has one more chance.
