Jerusalem, the focus of the world
God's focal point, and history has impelled
To localise
His heart and centre where He sought to dwell
A city where the prophets voices tell
Under the skies
Where centuries of war have been the way
But would look forward to a future day.
God is within her, she will not be moved
Her heavenly origin, His wisdom proved
As Zion's King
Man would destroy her, but the sure
return
Was destined, and her citizens could yearn
And anthems sing
While some anticipate a heavenly view
When God, their God, will hear their praise anew.
And revelation showed an awesome sight
The holy city, from a mountain height.
Now from the sky
The bride would show, the pleasure of the Lamb
His wife, the glorious new Jerusalem
And from on high
Descending, resplendency from God alone
Her light so shining like a precious stone.
No sun, no moon, no temple and its ways
The Lamb its temple, and God's glorious rays
Of light beyond
The noonday sun, illuminance has shed
And shines the way the nations feet will tread
All will respond
Those who are saved, and gathering of earth's kings
There, all the honour and high glory bring.
And we anticipate this glory now
And turn our gaze to heaven, and we bow
Before His face
Our bridegroom holds our hearts with tender love
To bring our wandering eyes to things above
And shadows chase
For Babylon's bewitching might has gone
Jerusalem in all its power has shone.
