Broad Shoulders of His Grace

by Dave Mudford © 2023

Shattered dreams, a living nightmare,
Even when my eyes are not closed,
Confronting me, my problems are right there,
My wrong, now leaving me exposed.

Disfigured expectations are raiding hope,
Drifting in the shadows,
Defeated alone, at the end of my rope,
Far from my green meadows.

Misguided actions, a rhyming curse,
Missing all God's rhythms,
His precious words, I'm living in reverse,
All my hope just withers.

My crippling fear, with His love replace,
With my shepherd I am living,
Carried on the broad shoulders of His grace,
All my wrongs He is forgiving.

Shattered dreams, I now bring to Him in prayer,
To His love may my eyes be never closed,
Even though my problems are still right there,
I'm in His favor, nevermore exposed.

Even when I walk through the shadow of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me!

Note: This poem is dedicated to the memory of my precious Dad - Bill Mudford. My Dad was a sheep farmer. An image that stays with me is of him carrying one of the lambs on his broad shoulders because it could not make the journey on its own. It reminds me of the fact the Lord is my Shepherd and he is offering me his shoulders.

Thanks Dad for your broad shoulders in my life and showing me the Good Shepherd

Psalm 23 :
The LORD is my Shepherd, I have all I need
He lets me rest in green meadows......
