When Butterflies Curse

by Dave Mudford © 2023

when butterflies begin to curse you
by their bright colours contrasting your grey,
and your blessings seem to be so few
their weight lands heavy on all you survey

your grounded by your situation
as they flutter on a gentle breeze,
they have new life through transformation
while your failures have you on your knees

when hope becomes only wishful thinking
and rain is the thing that brings you pain,
did I just see the butterfly winking?
all I'm ever doing is complain…

time to take a different look at this world
beauty has been given to lift my eyes,
to see God's power as it is unfurled
reminding me of all that He supplies

now as I see the butterfly, I sing
knowing God's care for me is greater still,
giving my praise for all the grace He brings
despite burdens, He will my life fulfill

my broken life is now transformed to new
spreading my wings to soar, alive in Him,
with the Father I have a brand-new view
like the butterfly I'm blessed to the brim!

Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
