1. Science and the Bible

In the 1840's there was an Austrian doctor, called Ignaz Semmelweis. He was worried about the number of women patients in his hospital who were dying. They usually managed to have their babies without too much trouble, but soon afterwards they had infections, which quickly killed them - and often their babies too.
