Wording of this Handout:

You probably know that a bee makes a wax home for its baby, and for the honey, but have you ever wondered why the cell is that shape and not some other?

But before we find out, here are some facts :

A normal wax cell is shaped like a hexagon.

Each cell is open at one end and has a three sided base. The base of each cell forms the base of the other cell on the other side.

Now here's why bees make cells of this shape. If you try to make cells of different shapes, you find that:

Round shapes don't fit together very well and there needs to be a lot more wax.

Square shapes fit together well, but they are not as strong.

Triangular shapes fit well but they use too much wax for the number of cells they make.

Odd-shaped or pentagonal celts don't fit together well and they use too much wax.

Conclusion.

So the bee uses the best possible shape to get the most storage out of the least wax with the greatest strength.

God, who made the bee, shows His wisdom through what the bee can do.
