Wording of this Handout:
The aardvark is an animal that eats termites.
Aardvarks can grow to over two metres long and one metre high.
The aardvark lives in central and southern Africa.
When it has broken open a termite nest with its powerful claws, the aardvark pokes its long, sticky tongue in and pulls it out covered with the insects.
Aardvarks have ears like a donkey and are expert burrowers. If caught away from its home it can dig a hole at astonishing speed.
The word "aardvark" is Dutch for "earth pig."
Aardvarks live most of the day in the holes they dig, then when the sun goes down, they come out to look for food.
