Population Control

A weevil can produce about 20 offspring. Lets us suppose that half of those twenty are females.

In two weeks those ten females could each produce twenty more weevils.

After 16 generations of weevils, at this rate, we would have about ten thousand million tons of weevils!

So why is the world not covered in weevils?

Because God has built into the world a set of controls. Some of these controls are:

1. Too many weevils and the food supply drops, which means that not many of them survive,
2. Weevils have enemies, which eat them,
3. The more weevils there are, the more food there is for insects and animals that eat them, so their enemies increase as fast as they do,
4. As the seasons change, the food supply or the weather are not very helpful to weevils,
S. Plants can change slightly to make themselves taste bad to weevils.

There are many other reasons why we are not buried under weevils today, but the thing to remember is that God designed the world, and created weevils to live in it. Because God is a wise Creator, He knows how to make the whole system work.
