Wording of this Handout:
Is the peacock proud of its tail? No, but some people act like peacocks, strutting about in their fancy clothes and showing themselves off. People can be as 'proud as a peacock' even though peacocks aren't proud!
How does the peacock walk about with such a huge tail? He doesn't have the fan of feathers up all the time. When he needs to walk around he folds the whole tail together and drags it along behind him. Carried this way, only a small part of the tail touches the ground.
Another bird with a wonderful tail is the Australian lyrebird. This bird has a tail which looks like a musical instrument - a lyre, which the Greeks used to play on like a small harp.
The peacock's tail shows the wonder of God's creation.
