Wording of this Handout:

The sun-catcher cells are usually green because of something they have in them which is green.

Trees carry food up from the ground to feed their leaves and branches, and the leaves make food (sugar) which is carried away to feed the rest of the tree.

One of the most amazing things about a tree is the way it lifts water.

How does a tree which is as high as a three story building lift water all that way?

By using an evaporation pump. This means that as water evaporates (dries up and blows away) from the top of the tree, it makes a suction, which pulls water upwards.

The suction can be as much as 7000 pounds per square inch (that's about 3,200 kg for every 2 cm square)!

In fact, if you wind a tape measure round a tree trunk when the weather is wet, and then measure the trunk again when the tree is in hot, dry weather, you will find that the trunk has shrunk.

How wise God is to create trees. They show the hand of the Creator of all things in every way.
