Wording of this Handout:
A forest is a lot more than a bunch of trees growing together.
One thing a forest does is control the weather.
The floor of a forest is usually very cold - so cold it can make tiny ice crystals.
These crystals rise into the sky and gather drops of water, which fall as rain.
Which means that a forest makes its own rain!
When it rains, a forest catches the drops and lets them fall from leaf to leaf, so the rain doesn't destroy the soil around the roots.
A forest also drops a lot of leaves and sticks, which feeds the soil on which the forest depends.
A forest is a very efficient sponge. It soaks up huge amounts of water and lets it go slowly. This protects the rivers and streams from scouring.
When God designed forests, He built into them many things which show His great wisdom and understanding.
