224 - The value of human

The value of a human.

Many movies, especially science fiction kind, like to include the idea that humans are just another type of animal, and in some cases we hear words like "Humans are pests. like locusts. They are no better or worse than any other part of Nature (Jurassic Park) They are a virus (The Matrix). They devour everything (Independence Day - implied). And insignificant (Contact) in a cast universe."

It is a common belief that humans are not particularly important. Some more scientific programs like to suggest that earth is just a fleck of dust in a galaxy which is, ultimately, doomed to total destruction. Humans, therefore, are of now value whatsoever.

The Bible says quite the opposite. As to the earth being small, it is not logical to measure value by size. Short sports people are not less valuable than tall sports people, and small children are not less valuable than large children.

Jesu told a story about a shepherd who had 100 sheep. ONe of the sheep wandered away, so the shepherd spent many long hours searching for it, then he carried it back on his shoulders. The story is about Jesus himself, the Great Shepherd, carrying a lost human back to the Kingdom of God.

The story shows that Jesus values you and me so much He is willing to carry us personally on His shoulders!
