Wording of this Handout:
Ready and waiting
For the last two thousand years people have been saying that Jesus could come at any moment. There have been times when hundreds of people were out in the fields or sitting on their rooftops, expecting to shoot away to heaven, but it didn't happen.
Many years ago a bunch of misguided people in Wellington, who thought Jesus was about to return actually ran along the wharf and flapped their arms, because they though God needed a little help getting them airborne!!
But if the people had read their Bibles they would have known that Jesus could not come until certain things had happened. Jesus himself told his followers that he would not return until the Jews had come back to their own land and resettled. This happened 1917, at the end of the Second World War, so up till then it was a waste of time expecting the return of Christ.
So the big sign - the return of the Jews to their land - is the warning to us that Jesus could come soon, but we still don't know exactly when!
Here I come Lord... oop!
You can take me up now!!
One! Two! and away!!
The Bible says "And they (the Jews) shall fall bu the edge of the (Roman) sword, and shall bel led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled." Luke 21:24 (New King James Version)
