change

by Steve Gracie

When I heard the knocking
I turned and closed the door
I walked away and choose
To live life on my own
I always thought I did ok
And lived respectably
I had the life the adverts show,
Young and fancy free

But in the dark of night
When friends were not around
I fought against demons
Who sought to pull me down
The loneliness and solitude
Gnawed and ate my soul
I'd always been my own strength
But now I did not know

And then I heard the knocking
A gentle voice upon the wind
And still I stood by myself
Refusing to give in
But who on earth can stand before
The love that Jesus brings
I opened up my heart to Him
And heard the angels sing

So, when you hear the knocking,
Don't turn and walk away
Welcome Him with open arms
And He will always be there
For Jesus is the only Way
The Truth and the Light
And through Him you will know
The joy of everlasting life.
