A Sea of Fear

by Sean Mack

"Master, carest thou not that we perish?"
the question cut through salty air,
as the sea lashed below a troubled sky --suddenly dark, and once cherished
and while water threw and filled the boat, fear quickly bred despair.

"Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?"
Jesus asked in simple, quiet strength as livid storm winds whipped and screamed,
and as His rising quickly quelled the ship's and men's perceived fate --
creating instead an eternal scene, born of future lessons and destinies unseen.

"What manner of man is this?" went half-whispered words in stillness
just before an arrival at Gergesenes to fight devils resident in men,
as the wake made its murky mist, a faint reminder of having passed a storm's crest,
and filtering a sea of fear that remains even today, waiting for faith to live again.

And while covered in waves, questioning today what we can rightly do ...
we point and float toward faith -- seeking the Lord anew.
