The Real Reason For Christmas

by Gertrude Jefferies

It's easy to get caught up in the rush
Of baking, shopping and presents,
Easy to forget about Him,
Midst the mistletoe and incense.

Store lines are long, our lists even longer
We've so much on our busy minds.
And all the while, He quietly waits
To see if for Him, we'll make time.

We make such a point of Christmas season
We can be friendly, benign.
We reach out to the poor and destitute
Forgetting the Lover of Mankind!

If we could hear His heart as He watches
Us, dash around getting things in place
We'd probably hear Him say, "My child,
Do you not have for Me a space?"

The season is all about His coming
Yet, He is the last one we think of,
God help us get our priorities straight
Christmas came, BECAUSE of His love!

Forgive us, Father, help us remember
That Christmas is all about You.
And as we sing, Silent Night, Holy Night,
Fill our hearts with a love that is true.
