Growing with Mom

by Shanda Springfield

I'm a little bitty baby
My mom is so great
She's always taking care of me
I never have to wait
She feeds me when I'm hungry
In the middle of the night
I love the way she holds me
It always feels so right

I'm a small child
A toddler, some may say
My mom is always chasing me
As I run, run away
I know I am a handful
Like all children are
But Mom never complains
Because I'm her shining star.

I'm an older child now
Learning as I grow
Mom is beginning to teach me
Everything she knows
I help her in the kitchen
And with the laundry, too
I'm trying to learn from her
That's what good kids do....

I'm a teenager now
Driving, Dating, and all that stuff
My mom is such a worrier
She's always in a huff
I'm in that rebellious stage
Mom hates my attitude
I hope she sees my love for her
Even though I'm rude

All grown up now
My mom is growing old
I see her as a treasure
Worth much more than gold
I hope to gain her wisdom
And also her strength
To trust in the Lord
And his truth at length

I'm elderly now
My mom has passed away
I miss her so much
More and more each day
Lord, give me peace
Let your love comfort me
Knowing mom is in Heaven
One day with her I'll be.
