-Rejected Love- The Ultimate Valentine's Day

by Bryan Miles

A dozen long-stemmed roses
Scattered on the ground
Started out in a crystal vase
Yet, that's where they were found
Different shapes of chocolate
A crumpled heart-shaped box
Some left sitting neatly in place
Some strewn amongst the rocks
A long parade of tiny ants
Trailing towards the sweets
Instinctive beings take the bite
Some men refuse to eat
And near the curb sits a valentine
Its envelope is sealed
For anyone to open it
Their hearts would have to yield
Accept the offer given them
To trust enough to try
Sometimes a heartfelt valentine
So quickly passes by

It's not a very pleasant scene
When love is left rejected
Not the sort of welcomed response
The giver had expected
He puts his heart on paper
And showers it with gifts
But thankfulness and gratitude
Are not the praise it lifts
He's left there standing on his own
Head hanging towards the ground
A brokenhearted valentine
Whose love has been put down

Mocked, insulted, spit upon
The Greatest Valentine
Was nailed upon a wooden cross
Still scoffers stand in line
Stomping the Rose of Sharon
And tossing it away
Ripping up the Valentine
Their flesh comes into play
They want to eat the chocolates
And taste the sweetest wine
Forget about unfailing love
Or Greatest Valentine

He put His heart on paper
And showered it with gifts
And all He has to say to you
The Holy Spirit lifts
You leave Him hanging on the cross
Head facing towards the ground
By not accepting His Valentine
You're putting His love down
His Valentine is still inside
But the envelope is sealed
For anyone to open it
Their hearts would have to yield
Yield unto the Savior
Each and every part
You can't receive His Valentine
By closing off your heart...
