Breathless

by Tom Watson

It had been two evenings after the star had appeared near the little shepherd home. The oldest son ran, laughing and jumping with joy as he rushed home from the little village of Bethlehem and through the door…

BREATHLESS!

Hi. Sor…sorry
I took s-s-so long…
I need to ge-get my breath…don't worry…
Did you hear it? The song?
It was filling the sky
As I ran along…

Where did I go you ask me?!
Why, I told you my destiny!
You saw the star…the star so bright!?
I ran to where its beam stretched in the night.
Oh my God…oh my Lord…H-h-he was there!
And when I-I saw the manger
I be-became breathless with, not fear
But the sudden sense of peace drawing near!

There were sheep,
And there were kings watching Him sleep…
Three kings leaving Him gifts as they left!
And I, there only with my shepherd's staff…
I had to give Him something I felt,
So I lay it by the manger as I knelt…
Yes, the "manger"! That's where He lay…
Dressed in swaddling clothes, in the hay.

And, you know what? He smiled at me!
He smiled and my breath caught, my tears flowed free!
Shamelessly I cried breathlessly for joy
For I knew then, our Messiah had come in this little boy!
