-Two Kids in the Mud-

by Bryan Miles

Two kids in the mud
Playing in the sun
Splishing and splashing
And having such fun
Mud splattered hair
Speckled of face
Slinging and slopping
All over the place
Mud in their pockets
Shovels and pails
Sitting for hours
Mud on their tails
Unaware of the mess
Or the day on the run
Slinging the mud
Splattering fun

"It's time to come home"
They heard their dad say
It was then each one noticed
The mess of the day
Then each little boy
Frantically tried
To clean up each other
Though some mud had dried
And the mud that was left
Went from one to the other
A finger-painted frenzy
Brother to brother

At this time the father
Walked down to the boys
He hosed them both off
Their clothes and their toys
He led them both safely
Up to their front door
Forgiving the mess
And the clothes they both wore
He tucked them in bed
And kissed them goodnight
Only their father
Could make things alright

Two kids in the mud
Can't clean up each other
Brother to sister
Or sister to brother
It takes someone clean
To wash up a mess
To dry off the filth
And exchange how we dress
So, remember this story
When there's mud on your face
We all are in need
Of God's mercy and grace...
