Life is a Race

by Ken Leath

The Apostle Paul put it best,
When he said, "Life's a race."
We put our trust in our Lord.
And finish by His grace.

Whether life is a sprint.
Or it's miles we have run.
Is our life full of toil?
Or are we living for fun?

Sometimes life is hard,
We're not here just for fun.
There's an eternal reward,
If it's for God that we run.

There is a joy to be found,
In the sweet steady pace.
Of the race that we run,
After seeing Jesus' face.

It sounds morbid to say.
But death is the goal.
And the prize at lifes' end.
Is for our eternal soul.

You can live a "good life",
You can do it "your way".
You can "gain the whole world",
And lose it all on that day.

But if you love your neighbor,
If it's Christ that you serve.
When you finish the race,
Won't get what you deserve.

Because it's not what we do,
We will suffer no loss.
We receive mercy and grace,
When we trust on the Cross!
