What is Christmas?

by Ken Leath

What is it that we celebrate?
What does Christmas really bring?
The Christmas tree we decorate?
Or the Carols that we sing?

Is a gift exchange what it's about?
Or the good food that we eat?
The Christmas lights that we put out?
Or the people we're going to meet?

Is Christmas only what we buy,
With our money at the store?
Then casually only saying hi,
To the Kettle guy by the door?

Is it really just a holiday,
We can't say "Merry Christmas" anymore?
If it's nothing special anyway,
What are we celebrating for?

What Christmas is really all about,
Is our Savior being born!
The Heavenly Host did loudly shout,
Upon that blessed morn!

Shepherds came to see this child,
Where He lay in a mangers hay
In swaddling clothes so meek and mild,
They worshiped Christ that day.

In a little town called Bethlehem,
Unto a virgin a child was born.
The babe who is the great I Am,
Was born on Christmas morn.

It's more than just a holiday,
Cause Christmas has true worth.
Trees and gifts are just a way,
To celebrate Jesus' birth.

So as we trim the Christmas tree,
And wrap our gifts, I'd say.
The gift Christ gave to you and me,
Should be on our hearts today.

There's a Christmas gift that we can give,
To our Lord in heaven above.
It's this life of ours we have to live,
If we live it for God, with love!
