A Conversation (with God)

by Ken Leath

Father can I talk to you?
There's something on my mind.
You've always listened carefully.
You're so wonderful, so kind.

I'm worried about so many things.
Life gets harder every day.
The struggles out in front of me,
Are insurmountable, I'd say.

My job has turned a corner,
No longer rewarding, now it's a task.
I think often of retiring.
When it will happen? I dare not ask.

The issue is often money,
I can't afford to buy a car.
The groceries cost a fortune,
It just doesn't go so far!

Yet when I think about my kids,
I'm filled with joy, yet troubled by fear.
Their young and so inspired with life,
But it gets harder every year.

I don't know just what to tell them.
Work or college is their choice.
It really doesn't seem to me.
There's any room in life to rejoice.

You say I shouldn't worry?
Take each day one at a time?
But what about my future?
I haven't even saved a dime!

You say you'll meet my every need?
I'm more valuable than a bird?
Jesus Christ was born to die for me?
You wrote about it in your word?

I should really count all my blessings.
Not dwell on what I think is wrong.
I pray that you'll watch over my kids.
Because you're the one who's strong.

Faith in You is all I need.
To trust upon Your word.
You alone provide for me.
Of this I am assured!
