How will You Celebrate Christmas this Year?

by George Cuff
http://throughthebibleinpoetry.blogspot.com

Many will celebrate Christmas this year
With parties and gifts and Yuletide cheer,
But nary a thought of Christ, our King;
No thoughts of praise, no hymns they sing.

But I will not live by thankless editions
Of visible wealth and worldly ambition.
Christmas means more than gifts and toys,
Eating and drinking, and party noise.

I hereby take my stand to say:
"I praise You, O God, this Christmas Day
Not only for gifts or holiday fun,
But for my redemption bought by Your Son."

Your only son, Jesus, the babe in the stable,
Redeemer, Refiner, He who is able
To conquer sin and death's dark power
Sparing me Judgment's terrible hour.

I like to give gifts to those I love,
But not to the exclusion of Him above
Whose broken, pierced body on bloody cross
Saved my lost soul from eternal loss.

So with all my breath, my life, my heart
I affirm this unchanging truth to impart:
Jesus is God's redemption plan
For fallen, helpless, hopeless man.
