Endings to Beginnings

by Nikiesha Richards

I woke up this morning feeling great
To a well prepared breakfast on my plate
With a seat outside, seeing the cars pass by
And a mother bird teaching a baby chick how to fly

The kids are off to school and they say goodbye with a kiss
A day to myself brings me utter bliss
My neighbor looks at the time and says oh my gosh I'm late
As a car drives up and she meets them at the gate

I threw my head back and my hands in the air
A sense of freedom, being the only one here
I heard this voice and I quickly took my hands down
But I didn't see anyone, as I looked around

I was frightened because I was alone
Then here comes this man with a chair of his own
I looked at this man and asked if he's in the right place
He said this is the given address, with a smile on his face

He said I am here because you are at the brink
We both know that you do not want another drink
From this morning you will never be the same
You will shiver each time you see and hear my name

You have seen my name before it is in the book
But now you would pay more attention the next time you look
Drinking only burns your problems leaving the ashes behind
Pray to me today, and I will give you a sound peace of mind

In the blink of an eye he was gone in a flash
And those bottle went straight into the trash
I thank him today for showing me how to win
And showing me ending is a good way to begin
