I have prayed

I have prayed to become a better man
But never took the time to look at Your plan
Looking back its no wonder why I always failed
Because without You, I could have never prevailed

I have prayed for things You didn't want
For things that I could aimlessly flaunt
A never ending quest consumed by greed
And why? When You are all that I need

I have prayed for so many years
And I have shed oh so many tears
You never said life would be painless
But Lord I am a complete and total mess

I have prayed for so many things
But none greater than what You can bring
So come dear Lord and save me please
I'm down here praying on my knees
