Moving Day

by Bryan Miles

A moving van pulled up one day
To take the pastor's things away
Many things the pastor loved
Were packed and pushed, pulled and shoved
Bibles, journals, devotionals and books
In all the cranny's, and all the crooks
Everything the pastor had
The congregation was very sad
Pastor Peterson had passed away
A very moving, moving day

But Pastor's life was not a loss
He always followed the way of the cross
He taught the congregation to give
The only way a man must live
They clothed the needy, and fed the poor
Their church was always an open door
An open door for any need
A very giving church indeed

So, they were not surprised at all
Their pastor's heart was never small
And so he willed the day he died
That a moving van should pull outside
Take all he had, and give it away
A very moving, moving day

The congregation stood in awe
They lived their lives, and the pastor saw
The pastor saw their hearts take heed
They gave away when they saw a need
And so, the pastor died in peace
Rewarded in heaven to say the least
For everything we store away
We can't take with us on Judgment Day
The greatest thing we leave behind
Is a hidden treasure of another kind
The hidden treasure in our heart
That tells the world we did our part

We did our part, all part of God's plan
So, let them pack the moving van
A true disciple moves out of the way
A very moving, moving day...
