A Step or Two

by Ron Secoy

John was just an infant
Just a little buckaroo
Mom and Dad were so happy
When he took a step or two

He was learning every day
Like how to tie a shoe
Understood how to do it
When shown a time or two

Saw the foal after it was born
Limbs moving all askew
Finally with much effort
He took a step or two

Had a fight with George
Regretted the punch he threw
A hand shake made it better
After he took a step or two

Mary was the apple of his eye
So much he wanted her to woo
Mom said to treat her like a lady
And learn a dance step or two

The tux was so uncomfortable
Wasn't so sure he would make it through
But when he saw her come down the aisle
He knew with her he'd take a step or two

Working horses and cattle
Things you have to do
Life, in general, usually
Starts with a step or two

Whenever there is something
That you really want to do
Put all your heart into it
Then take a step or two

The Big Trail Boss calls
To the likes of me and you
Wants to meet us on the way
To walk with us a step or two
