Martyr, Martyr!

by Bryan Miles

It baffles me, how you took your last breath;
How bravely you faced, your impending death!
With such deep conviction, you took your last stand
Your death, and your life; you placed in God's hand!

Heads chopped off, sawed in half;
Those on the sidelines, chuckle and laugh!
Where is your God? Where is He now?
Will His angels fly down, and save you somehow?

Thrown in prison, for years and years
Where is your God? Will He dry all your tears?
In the words that you read, is there something about,
How the God you believe in, will pull you out?
Martyr, martyr, you face so much pain!
Your foolish beliefs are really insane!

You stand in a fire, set aflame by hell!
Yet somehow, you don't even scream or yell!
You sing a hymn, it echoes your voice!
Everyone knows, the God of your choice!

I can only wonder, as I search this day;
Would I be able to react this way?
Would I be able to face my death,
And praise your name, with my last breath?

Would I be able, to stand brave and proud?
No matter what, the raging crowd!
Would I be able, to be sliced in two,
And keep my eyes fixed straight on you?

Martyr, martyr, I can only pray!
That things don't ever turn out that way...
