Far From You

by Janet Hedgecock

When I was far away from You
The world enthralled! It drew and drew!
I saw not, heard not, found no peace,
To soothe my heart nor pounding cease.
I ran from this, to that instead,
Never to rest as I fled and fled,
I thought that this was life in bold
And so it was I ne-er was told.

My life was weak and almost went,
Time was slow and then was spent.
I passed into the timeless zone.
No thing there, was on my own.
I waited, lost and empty too,
I knew not me, I knew not You.
When all at once, I was thrust forth
Now going South, from facing North!

Oh what joy I'm here, anew!
This is Life! This is true!
I gather strength and slowly climb,
Two rungs up, down one, I find!
I met myself when going down,
I felt! I saw! No need to frown!
I passed on by, to travel on…
My Friend is there! He is not gone!

I hunted down my every thought
I traced it back where it was caught,
I faced again the life I'd lead
Cut right thru, 'til each was dead.
When I was not, You came! You were!
Thru the clouds a ray of care!
I felt Your light, then You were gone!
I peered again but there was none.

So on I went, right thru the web
Of tangled memories and dread,
From no, to yes, and yes, to no,
A fearful dream! It was to go!
And when I finally gave in
Surrendered me to what I'd been,
We saw each Other bright and clear
No time or space for thought and fear!
