Lessons from Little Things

by Gertrude Jefferies

They have no one to command them,
Yet they labor hard and long.
Storing food for the winter,
To keep them healthy and strong.

God would have us take a lesson,
From these tiny little ants.
Laboring, living together
They leave nothing to chance.

The lesson God would have us learn,
Is to work while it is day,
For the night comes and no man can work,
Or be useful in any way.

If we work with the same gusto
In the work God's called us to,
Then at the end of our day,
We will hear our God say:
"Well done, my child, faithful and true.
