One Moment's Pause

by Greg Doyle

A turn, and for one moment's pause,
loud palpitations in my ear;
this revelation was the cause

for I, then, faced my darkest fear.
A second, as a million, fly
on verge of flight, yet transfixed here

upon this precipice so high,
where I have never been so low.
Exposed, the wounds, so ugly, lie

excised in light as sorrows flow.
And broken as I'd ever be,
down on my knees, O Lord, I go;

in whispered prayers, at last, set free
from guilt and shame and pride, and me.
