A Fluttering in My Heart

by Kathleen Higham

Just before life conspired
My child, I thought of you
A fluttering in my heart
A dream was coming true.

My first, you were amazing
Now time has slipped away
A fluttering in my heart
That sped us to this day.

Standing at the doorway
You have grown so tall
A fluttering in my heart
I thought I felt it all.

Nothing would prepare me
For such a time as this
A fluttering in my heart
Remembering that first kiss.

But there would be so many
From your head to your toes
A fluttering in my heart
As I kissed your tiny nose.

Living every single moment
It is something mothers do
A fluttering in my heart
Brings sweet memories of you.

I thought of you, I did
In love you were conceived
A fluttering in my heart
Then I felt you and believed.

Oh, how I thank the Lord
For my beautiful son, Dan
A fluttering in my heart
When his precious life began.
