Beautiful Tragedy

by Gary L S West

Old friends watch me in derision
Mocking this, my heart's decision
Trying to raise some doubt in me
Of this beautiful tragedy

Where they are now, so once was I
Apart from God and doomed to die
Until He sent His Son to be
Such a beautiful tragedy

But I will to my friends explain
About the cross, what they could gain
For I hope that they will see
The beautiful tragedy

How Christ, so selfless, gave His all
And pardoned us and took the fall
And volunteered so willingly
To be beautiful tragedy

Lashes He bore and paid the price
For each and every sin and vice
So we can of our sins be free
By such beautiful tragedy

Such inspiration Christ became
That I will seek to be the same
To live like Him; aspire to be
A living beautiful tragedy
