A Beggar's Plea

by Gary L S West

Death
Hated friend
Beloved nemesis
Take not my friends from me

Breath
Stay near my kin
Caress their chest
From within; the core of their being

Sheer
Away my wings
Take from me
My freedom in their place

Fear
Of losing them
Only to see
In their stead an empty space

Who
Can aid me now
Can save them from
That ever-growing black abyss

You
Father God
I beg of You
Don't let them slip away like this

Kneel
Here am I
On my knees
Asking You to save their souls

Heal
Their broken hearts
And shattered lives
Feel their pain and make them whole

Raise
Ever I
Your mercy's tale
And spread Your Word to every one

Praise
Your name on high
And I will sing
Of the love shared by Your Son
