The Things of This World

Let's play with the devil, why don't we?
Let's open our minds to his lies!
No need to let go of the things of this world;
We're all right in our own eyes.

We'll watch dicey films on the telly
And every now and then
We'll sit in a bar and we'll down a pint
After practicing yoga or zen.

Karate and Judo seem harmless
The Lord of the Rings teaches 'truths'
Harry Potter's an innocent read -
A pleasant diversion for youths!

It's evil to be judgmental;
Righteousness is a drag
We're free and can do whatever we want
So stop being such a nag!

Church should be hip and uplifting
The messages filled with love
Woe to an offensive preacher
Who takes off his silken kid gloves.

"We cannot compete with the world
For the souls of the dead in the Lord
If we refuse to keep up with the times -
They'll only end up feeling bored."

The Gospel alone seems no longer enough -
Some feel we should supplement it
With all kinds of programs and seminars;
With music that's loud and upbeat.

Slowly the world is creeping
In through the media and arts
Contaminating our churches;
Strangling our spirits and hearts.
