The Temptation

by Gertrude Jefferies

The door stood ajar,
And as I peeked in
I saw what I wanted
So I walked right in.
I took what I wanted,
To me it seemed free
But it came with a price
As only sin can be.

I got what I wanted,
But at such a cost
And the dearest of treasures
Now to me are lost.
So please don't be fooled,
By enticements of sin
You'll gamble and lose,
Again and again.

So just keep on walking,
Past sin's open door
Hold fast integrity
Your conscience keep pure.
Grip tightly His promise,
That your strength He'll be
The choice is before you
Which one will it be
