on the road to damascus

by RAVI RATHAN KUMAR © 2016

The greatest conversion of all was that of apostle Paul
Happened on a road, where he got the heavenly call
Journeying to Damascus to the synagogues, with all authority
To bind the Christians, and put them in prison, displaying ferocity

Nearing Damascus, a heavenly light flashed around him,
Throwing him off the horse, the pursuer became the victim
Though physically blinded, of his spiritual condition enlightened
Hearing a voice “Why are you persecuting me” was Saul baffled,

“who are you O Lord”, was the startling counter question
“I am Jesus of Nazareth”, was the Lords revelation
Commanded by the Lord, to visit Ananias, for his sights restoration
And the re-birth of a great saint, who would be our great inspiration

Received from the Lord, was a life-long commission, Paul
Later on prided, “I was not disobedient to this heavenly call”
Displaying the same zeal as before, for a moment he would not rest
Like an athlete, he ran the race, giving his very best.

Banished from the cliff of pride to the valley of humility
Of himself, he would confess, as chief of sinners, with dignity
His life poured out as a drink offering at the feet of the Lord,
Chiseled to perfection, from whom, we are gifted God’s word

Authoring letters to the churches, inspired by God’s Spirit,
These epistles are the very word, by which we benefit,
Death would hold no sway in his life, as he deemed it gain
Which ultimately would transport him to the heavenly domain.

Live your life worthy of the gospel of Christ, his greatest exhortation
Lived his life true to it, to us it was a great demonstration
Handling his life’s conflicts with the greatest of ease
Drawing upon the Lords abundant grace, to him only appease

About to cross the finishing line, triumphantly exclaimed
“all through lived for Christ”, for a crown of righteousness he claimed
This then is the story of the apostle Paul, we fondly recall
To live such a pleasing life, would be our Lords clarion call.

It is not enough to applaud a life so lived,
But to take a “selfie” of what we in our life achieved
Committing to the One who holds the absolute sway
To recommit to our blessed savior, do not delay.
