Lost and Found

by Tyler Johnston

The lost knight wandered and climbed
The rocky mountain path that few of us find
Such a long way up, you’re stuck
And the view now looks farcical and unkind

Offered the life of a bird
But you’re bound by the land and the sea
Prayed to the sun and the moon
But the light that guides you asks a hefty fee

Your sword casts a long shadow
When’d it get so dull and heavy to hold?
Your shield it cuts like a knife
And it’s reflection stares back lifeless and cold

Parched, a clear spring bubbles up
You sip, and watch it run down towards the sea
The stream washes beauty behind
But caught and marooned in man’s tributaries

Finely dined on rotten meat
It seeped to the bone now keep you in line
Chained to jackals and hyenas
pulled down by your neck to a goat headed shrine

You pick the mountain flower
The storied medicine - it wilts in your hand
No elixir left to save you
Made by earthly nature - nor that of man

Ya groveled to coin and crown
Blindly followed orders, dark as it was
Your test now is ahead of you
Stay where you lay, or survive just because

Theres still something in this world
Above the veil of lies and it shines to see
Out of wheels within wheels
Where none escape but the spirit can be free

The shadow it looms before you
Your worn armor sits hunched far behind
Away the mist where you step
The One Eye rules in the land of the blind

Will you throw down your dark contempt?
And stark naked begin your slow descent
With both eyes and heart open
As the piper sits and plays his song of lament
