Mom's Empty Nest

by Margaret Cagle

Mom, your kids are grown
And now have left the nest.
You think now you can relax
And just kick back and rest.

What can you be thinking?
Really! Who told you this?
You may think that now
"I can live a life of bliss."

Those kids just grew in size.
They're still kids in your heart.
They have bigger problems now,
Which you may not have a part.

These kids are now adults,
Which you no longer control,
And the mistakes they may make
Can really take a big toll.

Mom, all you can do right now
Is to earnestly, fervently pray.
You can now only get involved
And help just whenever they say.

Mom, when children are adults,
They're still a part of your life,
Even though each one may have
A good husband or a good wife.
