SERVANTS OF THE LIGHT

by Peter the Poet
www.youtube.com/channel/UC_GtbBeRm8ctYlmNqax4afA

Ships in the night pass by out of view,
Just dots on a troubled and foam tossed sea.
Danger surrounds, death from all sides,
Perilous souls with a need to be free.

With a burdensome cargo each ship weaves it's way,
Destination awaits, unsure of arrival.
All it takes is one rock or one coral reef,
And your number is up, your future is tidal.

But in the depths of the night, there's pinpricks of hope,
The lighthouse stands guard, a sentry of life.
To ships, a sweet solace from chaos and death,
A haven from tempest, a sanctuary from strife.

The lighthouse stands firm on the edge of the waves,
A beacon of life to the searching and lost.
It's clear light shines out, forever reaching,
It burns through the dark regardless of cost.

And inside the lighthouse a devoted man works,
Maintaining equipment, his jobs never done.
Up and down stairs cleaning and polishing,
Consumed by his work he is kept on the run.

For he knows that the light must continue to shine,
His labors save many from a watery grave.
But he's not self important and puffed up with pride,
His focus is the light, he is only it's slave.

The light is the hero, to it those in peril are drawn,
Man's role is to see that the light functions well.
For who can be saved if no brilliance is seen,
Who can steer themselves out of the fast road to hell.

So strive to be servants, slaves to the light,
Through you God's light shines, a sign of his grace.
Never stop working be diligent in Christ,
For this is our calling and this is our place.

AUTHORS NOTE:
As Christians we must strive to be servants, not masters. Never fall into the trap of thinking above our station, what we are called to do here on Earth is different to what awaits us in Heaven. Be a servant as was the Lord when he walked in our shoes and you can't go far wrong. That means going out of our way to see that those in peril have their chance at safety, after all where would we be if a dedicated lighthouse keeper had' not done his job and looked after the light and shared it?

AUTHORS NOTE:
Hang in there fellow saints!! The going is tough and even though we are not tough but weaklings compared to our enemy, our Captain is not. Rely on him regardless of the strife you get into and he will deliver you. Be faithful to him in good and bad and he will stand by you. Even if you are not faithful he will stand by you anyway. I know (believe me, I know) that it is hard to remember this most basic belief of Christianity when you are neck deep in sewage but keep in mind that God can and will do wonders with the part of you that is clean.
Stand in the face of our enemy. That is all God asks of us. Resist the devil and he will flee from you in the mighty name of Jesus.
