The Eternal Word (John Chapter 1)

He was the Word in the beginning
He was with God, and was God too
God was there in the eternal blue
With Him, before the world was spinning
The Holy and the True.

All things through Him were in the making
Without Him, nothing could be made
In Him was life, and light for men arrayed
His life the light of men awaking
Humility displayed.

That light now shines into the darkness
But darkness did not comprehend
Instead, this truest light would send
To every man, a shaft of brightness
The Truest Light descend.

Though in the world, its substance forming
And to His own, His love to show
This lowly Man they did not know
Despite His miracles performing
This Miracle forego.

But there were some, who were receiving
His Grace, and He gave them the right
To then receive, the status in God's sight
To be His children, His Name believing
Their Truest Light.

For they were born of God, displaying
Nothing of their blood, or will of flesh
Nor will of man, but something fresh
It was the will of God obeying
To start their lives afresh.

The Word came into flesh and dwelling
Among and with our sorry state
Yet we beholding Him so great
His glory all our praise is swelling
Eternal praise await.

He is begotten of the Father
This Man is full of Grace and Truth
His fulness would our hearts infuse
Grace on Grace, to take us farther
And all His goodness choose.

Remaining in His Father's closeness
None have seen our God at any time
He has declared Him, His way sublime
And His love for us is ceaseless
As His path we climb.

He shoots us with a two-pronged arrow
That wings the air with Truth and Grace
Now we can see the beauty of His face
The glory of His Land foreshadow
Beyond both time and space.

He will fill, and fill completely
As blest forever by His love
Anticipating life with Him above
Grace and Truth are joining sweetly
Ministration of the Dove.
