Speech With Grace

by Margaret Cagle

Can others see Christ in us
In all that we say and do?
Are we careful when we speak?
Does Christ come shining through?

An old saying includes this phrase,
"Words can never hurt you."
From my experience, I can say,
"This saying is just not true."

Words can give comfort and peace,
Or words can be like a piercing dart.
Words can lift your wounded spirit,
Or words can break your heart.

Hurtful words spoken to others
Can result in sorrow and tears.
Fiery words to friends or loved ones
Can leave emotional scars for years.

The Bible says this about our speech,
"Let your speech be always with grace."
If we follow this Biblical principle,
God-pleasing speech will fall in place.
